Meet Kate Miner
Copywriter & Project Manager
Leah Knoll spent over a decade working with small businesses selling Yellow Pages before she founded Strategy 3. She’d regularly spend hours with clients discussing their entire marketing mix, and she loved it. When it became clear that Yellow Pages wasn’t the right fit for most small businesses anymore, she left. But she didn’t want to stop helping small businesses grow.
In 2014, she launched Strategy 3 — built entirely her way, on a conviction that’s stuck ever since: small businesses should get an excellent return on their marketing, and they should genuinely enjoy the relationship with the team doing it. Not one or the other. Both, always.
That conviction is now the engine behind a full-service Tacoma marketing agency doing SEO, web design and development, paid ads, social media, brand and creative, and — because the ground keeps shifting — Generative Engine Optimization, helping South Sound businesses and clients across the United States stay visible as AI chatbots increasingly do the deciding for us.
Leah is genuinely fascinated by the human experience, and in marketing terms, that means the customer journey — how someone actually moves from not knowing you exist to trusting you with their money. That journey looks different for every client, and it keeps changing shape faster than most small business owners have time to track. Making sense of it, for each business individually, is the part of the job she never gets tired of.
She and her husband, Butch — both business owners, so neither one is a stranger to the demands of being a small business owner — live in Tacoma and stay involved in the business community, because they care about the direction of this city, this state, and this country. They read and listen to books together and find themselves genuinely inspired by them, and they chase adventures that involve actual physical effort — including walking the Portuguese Coastal Route of the Camino de Santiago together.
When she’s not at work — and honestly, sometimes when she is — she’s chewing on the bigger question underneath all of it. Only half tongue-in-cheek, she’ll ask: what are we doing here? No, really. What are we doing here? That question follows her everywhere, whether she’s in a strategy session or on a trail in Spain, and it’s probably why client relationships at Strategy 3 tend to go deeper than “here’s your report.”
